Thousands of rare Picasso works are now available in a new online archive. An online portal showcasing thousands of Picasso’s works, photographs and related memorabilia is now available online thanks to the Musée Picasso in Paris, Art News reports.
The artist’s rare archives were released later this year ahead of the opening of a dedicated study center attached to the museum. The center is intended for researchers and artists.
In total, 19,000 photographs are included that have never been shown to the public before. In the coming years, it is planned to digitize and add another 200,000 texts from Picasso’s workshops to the portal.
The famous Spaniard is one of the most influential painters of the 20th century, one of the founders of the cubist movement along with Georges Braque. He was born in 1881 and lived most of his life in France. In 1992, his family archives were transferred to the French state, which continues to control them.
